Alex works across a range of styles and enjoys the flexibility this allows each project. Her work spans from illustrative black and grey realism and calligraphy to the more stylised brushwork and large scale abstract and blackwork tattoos. Her main focus is on the balance, flow and textures created on the skin. Alex is strongly influenced by large scale Japanese work which she gives a western spin. She often works with cover ups enjoying the challenge and new direction this can push the design in. This often involves using freehand techniques including painting directly onto the skin to ensure maximum flow with the figure. Painting directly onto the skin allows the tattoo to flow seamlessly with the curves and twists of the body. Capturing the rogue brush stokes, handmade feel of the brush textures and drips in the moment, remaining authentic and unique to each tattoo.
After studying art and working as a freelance illustrator and muralist Alex came to tattooing in 2017. Apprenticing and travelling central and South America for a couple of years she decided to settle and build a client base here in Bristol, having worked two completely different shops she is now co-owner of Six hands tattoo. Alex has tattooed in a variety of environments but has maintained a strong client base throughout because she works in depth with customers to create their vision whilst adding to it in a collaborative nature to become something neither Alex nor the customer has seen before. Each piece is bespoke and tailored to the customer.
